TCTC teachers and students in the health science pathway programs held their first ever HOSA meeting. The meeting introduced students to the organization’s goals and competitive events. Also, the advisors announced this year’s officers:

President: Joe Martin, Biotech II, Champion

Vice President of Competitive Events: Monica Davis, Pharm. Tech II, Mathews and Emily Koehler, BioTech I, Mathews
 
Vice President of Community Service: Jasmine Hickey, Exercise Science I, Bristol and Jessica Roszak, Exercise Science I, Brookfield

Treasurer: Britteny Kershaw, Pre-nursing II, Mineral Ridge

Secretary: Miranda Miller, Pre-nursing I, Southington

Historian: Alexander Dunbar, Pharm. Tech II, Hubbard

Reporter: Anissa Givens, Pharm. Tech I, Hubbard

HOSA stands for Health Occupations Students of America. HOSA is the student organization for health occupation students at the secondary and post-secondary, levels. HOSA goals are to promote career opportunities in the healthcare industry and also to enhance and promote the delivery of quality healthcare of people. HOSA provides many opportunities for students to learn and achieve. One such opportunity is the skills competitions. Competitions are at three levels- local, state, and national- with students advancing on to the next levels by winning the previous ones. HOSA offers more than 46 different events. TCTC’s HOSA chapter includes students from four programs: Pharmacist Technician, Pre-nursing, Exercise Science, and Biotechnology. Congratulations to the new HOSA officers. The next HOSA meeting will take place at TCTC, October 23, 2015.
