Each year, the Trumbull Career & Technical Center offers career and technical education programs. These programs are designed to prepare youth for a broad range of employment and training services and are offered under the guidance of certified teachers, counselors, and cooperative education coordinators. The following is a list of programs being offered this year and criteria for admission.

 Admission Criteria/Requirements

Air Force Jr ROTC 
  • Students must be in good academic standing

  • Students must earn a proficient score or higher on the end of course science test

  • A solid background in Math, Science & English is helpful to prepare cadets to assume leadership positions

  • Regular attendance in the AFJROTC Program, co-curricular & extracurricular activities is crucial in the overall development of the cadets

  • Speech elective is recommended

  • Organizing, planning, managing, leading & public speaking skills are helpful

  • Students enrolling in TCTC may have no more than two credit deficiencies toward graduation

  • Positive attendance record is required.

  •  Students enrolling in the TCTC may have no more than two credit deficiencies toward graduation

Animal Science, Equine 
  • Biological sciences, communications and physical education electives are suggested

  • Beneficial to have already passed Science OGT

  • Excellent attendance is a plus

  • Having a positive attitude, enjoy setting goals and enjoying new life experiences is recommended

  • Students enrolling in the TCTC may have no more than two credit deficiencies toward graduation

Animal Science, Health & Technology 
  • Strong math and science background

  • Positive attendance record is essential for success

  • Biology elective should be completed

  • Ability to work well with others

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to work well with your hands

  • Students enrolling in the TCTC cannot have more than two credit deficiencies toward graduation

 Auto Collision Technology 
  • Strong math and science background is recommended

  • Excellent attendance is suggested

  • Arts and design courses are helpful

  • Eye-hand coordination and organization skills are beneficial

  • Students enrolling in the TCTC may have no more than two credit deficiencies

Automotive Services Technology
  • Algebra 1 is recommended

  • Good attendance is essential

  • Electricity elective is suggested

  • Mechanical aptitude

  • Analytical thinking

  • Communication Skills

  • Students enrolling in the TCTC may have no more than two credit deficiencies toward graduation

  • Valid driver's license required for ASE Certification 

 
 Biotechnology 
  • Students must earn a proficient score or higher on the end of course science test

  • Strong reading, writing & mathematical skills are desirable

  • Cumulative 2.5 GPA, with "C" or better in Algebra I is required

  • Positive attendance record is required

  • Students enrolling at TCTC may have no more than two credit deficiencies toward graduation

 Community Co-Op 
  • Demonstrate appropriate dress and personal hygiene

  • Demonstrate good communication skills, including seeking assistance

  • Attend work as scheduled and on time

  • Follow company policies, procedures and safety regulations

  • Complete tasks/ job independently and efficiently

  • Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors

  • Use appropriate language and manners

  • Participate in social and job support activities

  • Demonstrate self-determination and problem-solving skills

Computer Networking and Security 
  • Computer applications and keyboarding knowledge are encouraged

  • Desire to be successful

  • Communication Skills - written & oral are helpful

  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 and a "C" or better in Algebra 1 or equivalent required

  • Positive attendance record is required

  • No more than two credit deficiencies toward graduation

 Construction Technology 
  • Geometry is recommended

  • Positive attendance record is suggested

  • Mechanically-inclined and good hand-eye coordination are helpful skills

  • Students enrolling in the TCTC cannot have more than two credit deficiencies toward graduation

 Cosmetology 
  • Manipulative skills, communication and interactive skills are suggested

  • Excellent attendance is required and all program hours missed will be made up before registering for the State Board Exam

  • A mature work ethic, dependability, listening skills and a sincere interest in people are the foundation for a successful career

  • Students enrolling in the TCTC cannot have more than two credit deficiencies toward graduation

  • Students must have earned a proficient score or higher on the end of course science test

 Culinary Arts 
  • General Math & Speech/ Communication Courses are suggested

  • 90% or better attendance is preferred

  • Home Economics & French I & II electives are recommended

  • Basic Understanding of Math, Good "People" Skills, and out-going personality & good stamina are helpful

  • Students enrolling in the TCTC may have no more than two credit deficiencies toward graduation

 Dental Assisting 
  • Students must earn a proficient score or higher on the end of course science test

  • Strong reading, writing & mathematics skills are desirable

  • Cumulative 2.5 GPA, with "C" or better in Algebra is required

  • Positive attendance record is required.

  • Students enrolling at TCTC may have no more than two credit deficiencies toward graduation.

 Electrical Technology 
  • Good Oral and written communication skills are helpful

  • One year of Algebra is preferred

  • A positive attendance record is essential for success

  • Shop and technical drawing electives are suggested

  • An ability to work with hands and willingness to follow directions are recommended

  • Students enrolling in the TCTC may have no more than two credit deficiencies toward graduation

 EMT Basic (Senior Only) 
  • Desire to save lives and provide emergency medical care

  • Pass anatomy and physiology requirement

  • Agree to a limited background check

  • Pass candidate interview

  • Pass TABE general aptitude test

  • Possess good communication skills

  • Have a positive attendance record

  • 2.5-3.0 GPA minimum

 Engineering Technology 
  • Basic Geometry Recommended

  • Communication Skills- written & oral are helpful

  • Positive attendance record is required

  • Visualization, Basic Computer Skills, Artistic Ability and "Out of Box" thinking are encouraged

  • Must be open to learning hands on exciting trade

  • Students enrolling in TCTC may have no more than two credit deficiencies towards graduation

 Exercise Science 
  • Students must earn a proficient score or higher on  the end of course science test

  • Cumulative 2.5 GPA for 9th and 10th grade is recommended

  • Biology and Algebra I with "C" or better is recommended

  • Positive attendance record is required

  • Students enrolling at TCTC may have no more than two credit deficiencies toward graduation

 Health Science Academy 
  • Good communication skills

  • Student must earn a proficient score or higher on the end of the course science test

  • Cumulative 2.5 GPA for 9th and 10th grade is recommended

  • Biology and Algebra I with "C" or better is recommended

  • Positive attendance is required

  • Students enrolling at TCTC may have no more than two credit deficiencies toward graduation

 HVAC 
  • Basic geometry recommended

  • Communication skills - written & oral are helpful

  • Positive attendance record is essential for success

  • Visualization, basic computer skills, and "out-of-the-box" thinking are encouraged

  • Must be open to learning hands-on exciting trade

  • Students enrolling in TCTC cannot have more than two-credit deficiencies toward graduation

Hospitality Services 
  • General Education Courses

  • Dependability, Communication Skills, Being Well-Groomed, Having and Attitude of Service to Others, Teamwork, Having and Attitude of Generosity, Being Compassionate & Caring, as well as Having a Positive Attitude are all Helpful

  • Family & Consumer Science Electives are Recommended

  • Students enrolling in TCTC may have no more than two credit deficiencies toward graduation

  • Positive attendance is helpful

Interactive Multimedia 
  • Basic computer skills suggested

  • Strong literacy skills are helpful

  • Cumulative 2.5 GPA is recommended

  • "C" or better in Algebra/ or equivalent

  • Positive attendance record is required

  • Students enrolling at TCTC may have no more than two credit deficiencies toward graduation

 Job Training 
  • Positive attendance record is helpful

  • Positive attitude is recommended

  • Suggested Family & Consumer Science classes

  • Willing to work with a team

Landscape & Design Technology 
  • Biological and environmental sciences, communications, drafting, geometry, business math and physical education are suggested courses

  • A positive attendance record is required

  • Art, business and marketing and accounting electives are recommended

  • The ability to understand and use a tape measure and a love of the outdoors, involvement in outdoor sports and recreation are all helpful skills

  • Students enrolling in the TCTC may have no more than two credit deficiencies toward graduation

Marketing Education 
  • Strong Math and Communication Skills are a plus

  • Students should have a 90% or better attendance rate

  • Must be a "People Person", able to self motivate

  • Strong work ethic is essential

  • Must enjoy working with people, in addition to a varied work environment

  • The ability to multi-task is important

  • Students with excellent attendance will benefit when being placed in a employment setting

  • Transportation is needed in the senior year, for Job Placement

  • Students enrolling in the TCTC may have no more than two credit deficiencies toward graduation

Nail Technician (Senior Only) 
  • Good manipulative skills, communication skills and interactive skills are suggested

  • Excellent attendance is required and all program hours missed must be made up before registering for the State Board Exam

  • A mature work ethic, dependability, listening skills and a sincere interest in people are the foundation for a successful career in this service industry

  • Senior student's schedule must be able to accommodate the program's time of 12:00 to 2:00PM

  • Must be able to drive or provide own transportation to TCTC 

Power Equipment Mechanics 
  • Algebra, geometry and general business electives are suggested

  • Ability to work in a team environment and the ability to follow simple directions for hands-on activities are helpful

  • Students enrolling in the TCTC may have no more than two credit deficiencies toward graduation

Public Safety 
  • English, Mathematics & Sciences are suggested

  • Communications/ speech, foreign language & computer skills are recommended

  • Positive attendance record is suggested

  • Strong work ethic, a positive attitude/ motivation & physical fitness are helpful

  • Interview and background check completed upon enrollment

  • 2.0 GPA or higher is required

  • Students enrolling in TCTC may have no more than two credit deficiencies toward graduation

  • Students must earn a proficient score or higher on the end of course science test

  • Positive attendance record is required

Teacher Academy, Career Paths for the Teaching Profession
  • Strong written and verbal skills are recommended

  • Computer and keyboarding skills are helpful

  • Two years of a foreign language is recommended

  • Willing and able to work in a cooperative setting with others is helpful

  • Application should have a strong desire to learn

  • Being positive, productive, responsible and accountable are excellent traits to have

  • Students enrolling in the TCTC can not have more than two credit deficiencies toward graduation

  • College bound students should have a 2.5 GPA

  • A positive attendance record is essential for success

 
Teacher Academy, Early Childhood Education

Visual Design & Imaging 
  • Higher level English courses are recommended

  • Good Communication Skills - written & oral are necessary

  • Positive Attendance record is required

  • Visualization, basic computer skills, artistic ability and thinking outside the box is encouraged.

  •  Must be open to learning hands on exciting trade

  • Students enrolling in TCTC may have no more than two credit deficiencies

Web Design & Application Development 
  • Passion for web design, programming and game design

  • Computer applications and keyboarding knowledge are encouraged

  • Desire to be successful

  • Communication skills - written & oral are helpful

  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 and a "C" or better in Algebra 1 or equivalent is required

  • Positive attendance record is required

  • Students enrolling at TCTC may have no more than two credit deficiencies toward graduation

Welding & Cutting 
  • Excellent to very good attendance recommended

  • Shop and mechanical electives are suggested

  • General tools and hand-eye coordination are helpful skills

  • Students enrolling in the TCTC may have no more than two credit deficiencies toward graduation
