Make a Wish
When the Make a Wish Foundation sought to grant the wishes of a very sick child who was enduring chemotherapy, they enlisted the services of two students enrolled in the Interior Design Program at the Trumbull Career & Technical Center. The 11 year old girls asked for a complete bedroom makeover. Joe Toney and Amy McGrath were anxious to help.
Mr. John Gouvas from Noveau Interiors secured donations from area businesses that included a new bed, carpet, furniture, window treatments, pictures and light fixtures. Joe and Amy hung the fixtures, arranged the room, made the bed and hung the curtains and pictures according to the design requested by the girl. They invested about six hours of their time on a Saturday to help with the project.
Amy McGrath stated, “I was excited to be part of this. I used my program skills to create something nice for a kid in need. She was a real sweetheart and the look on her face when she saw the room is something I will always remember.”
As a reward for their good deed, Amy and Joe were granted a much smaller wish of their own. They were awarded a pie of their choice from the Post House Restaurant in Champion.
The Interior Design Program teaches students the basics of furniture repair, interior paint application, wall coverings, window covering fabrication and installation and provides retail sales experience. Program completers qualify for entry level careers in furniture sales, interior decorating, painting and wall covering installer.
