Literacy Contest for students at Trumbull Career & Technical Center sponsored by Mark Thomas Ford.
Read to Win!!! Read to Drive!!!
In many respects reading does for the mind, what weightlifting does for the muscles. Skill in reading is critically important to success in school and in a future career. We are in the midst of the information era. The only way to keep pace with the rapid changes in society and in the job market is to develop an appreciation for the written word. The only sure fire way to improve reading skill is to provide opportunities for students to read. It never hurts to devise a motivational technique to increase students’ interests.
During the 2006-2007 the students at the TCTC will be challenged to read 12 books and to submit reflection forms summarizing what they have read after finishing each book. The students who complete these assignments will have the chance to compete for a very teen-friendly prize. Mark Thomas Ford in Cortland is donating a pre-owned car to the winning student.
In order to qualify for the grand prize, the students will compete in a writing contest that is based upon the content of the books they have read during the course of the school year.
The TCTC says thank you to Mark Thomas Ford for their donation and for their overall support of our educational program. The dealership is located at 3098 Elm Road in Cortland.
