The Welding and Metal Fabrication Program conducted AWS Welding Certification Tests in the following welding processes: S.M.A.W., T.I.G., M.I.G. and Flux Cord.
The testing criteria is a Guided-Bend, Destructive Test Procedure.
Students are given two plates pre-welded together with a 1 1/2 inch strip. Students must fill the trough between the two plates and then file the strip flush to the plates. They are then required to cut the resulting plate into 3 inch strips.
To test the welds, these strips are sent to an independent laboratory where they are bent 180 degrees. To receive certification, the student's welds must show no signs of gapping or breaking.
