HSTW NE Ohio Region

Trumbull Career and Technical Center (TCTC received the 2016 High Schools That Work (HSTW) Top Performing School in NE Ohio Region.  This Recognition is based on the performance of TCTC 2016 graduates who took the national 2016 HSTW Student Survey.

TCTC exceeded all schools nationally and was a top performing site in HSTW NE Ohio Region in providing  students with
an intensive emphasis in Literacy, Numeracy, Integrating Academics into Career Technical Studies, Quality Career Technical, Guidance and Extra Help. TCTC has been recognized numerous time in the past for outstanding performance and continues to be among the top performing HSTW schools.

Sixty TCTC 12th grade students participated in the survey, along with 24,221 students in 16 member states in the Southern Regional Education Board's HSTW national network. SREB works to improve public education at every level, from early childhood through doctoral education. Ohio joined the SREB HSTW national network in 1998 and the Making Middle Grades Work (MMGW) national network in 2002.

Diana Rogers, Executive Director, presented this recognition on at the Trumbull Career & Technical Center and praised the school for its achievement, noting the crucial role of Ohio high schools in graduating all students ready to be enrolled, employed or enlisted. "HSTW is a data-driven school improvement design that challenges schools to create a high performing school improvement culture where all students take challenging academics and career/technical courses in high school to prepare for success in postsecondary education and careers. It is my honor to recognize TCTC for continuing to create the type of culture where all students can succeed."

Mr. Jason Gray; Superintendent, and Mrs. Mary Flint; Director, “This school has shown what can be accomplished to raise student achievement by deeply implementing the HSTW design, and strengthening curriculum and instruction. The school illustrates the spirit of change that HSTW advocates resulting in improved student achievement and graduation rates. Mary Flint also noted that “Our survey data is a strong indicator that TCTC students recognize the opportunities available to them to be both college and career ready. They have the potential to earn industry credentials, enroll in dual enrollment classes, and earn college credit while in high school. These options save them both time and money after graduation.

This recognition is presented by the Board of Trustees of HSTW Ohio Network, a non-profit organization that supports HSTW and MMGW in northeast Ohio and statewide. For more information on Ohio and national HSTW and MMGW efforts, www.hstwohioregions.org and www.sreb.org
